The epic credit derivative tumult could not halt the speeding locomotives that are Wall Street commodities trading desks. These traders, at least the stars, continue to be exceptionally well-compensated. "Commodities traders did well in 2007 because the big firms are reluctant to kill the goose that continues to lay the golden egg," says George Stein, who heads up commodities trading recruitment at Whitney Group. "Commodities traders are in such high demand -- you don't want to lose your stars."
