Lew Named COO of Citi Alternative Investments

Appointee was previously COO of Citi Global Wealth Management.

Citi Alternative Investments has appointed Jacob "Jack" Lew to be its new chief operating officer, succeeding Don Callahan, who took over the post of Citigroup chief administrative officer (see related story).

Lew, 51, was formerly the COO of Citi Global Wealth Management. In his new role, he will oversee operational matters for the Citi investment unit, including technology, human resources, legal, finance and regional coordination issues. He will report to John Havens, president and chief executive of Citi Alternative Investments, which manages the bank's private equity, hedge funds, real estate, fixed income and infrastructure investment activities.

Additionally, Lew will serve as chair of Citi Alternative Investments' operating committee and as a member of its management committee, augmenting his position as a member of Citi's management committee.

Jack Lew

Lew brings seasoned corporate management experience to the COO position. Prior to joining Citigroup in 2005, he was executive vice president and COO of New York University, where he honed his operating skills by overseeing its budget, finance and operations, including capital projects and human resource activities.

Before NYU, Lew was director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton Administration, where he led its budget preparation team. In addition, he served as a member of the National Security Council.

A member of the bar in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, Lew chairs the management, administration and governance committee for the Corporation for National and Community Service board and sits as a co-chair on the advisory board for City Year New York. In addition, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Brookings Institution Hamilton Project Advisory Board and the National Academy of Social Insurance.

Lew earned his JD degree from Georgetown University.
