Cantor Fitzgerald Names New CEO

Matthews will oversee Cantor's equity capital markets, investment banking and debt capital markets businesses in his new role.

Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. has promoted Shawn Matthews to the position of CEO. He had served as head of its capital markets group. Matthews will be responsible for Cantor’s debt capital markets, investment banking and equity capital markets businesses.

Matthews was named executive managing director of debt capital markets last March after being appointed senior managing director and co-head of mortgage-backed sales and trading in September of 2007.

Philip Marber, who served as CEO of the firm’s equity capital markets group, will step aside as leader of that group. He will remain with Cantor and focus on strategic direction and recruiting. Howard Lutnick remains chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald LP.

New York-based Cantor Fitzgerald continues to add to its debt capital markets group. Last week, Lehman Brothers and Barclays veteran Peter Hall joined as a debt trader. In January, Cantor Fitzgerald hired UBS veteran John Baldo to its debt capital markets team as head of national fixed income sales. And in December, it brought on former Goldman Sachs trader Martin O. Teevan Jr. to head up its debt capital markets team.
