IDD Exclusive: JPMorgan PE Banker Sorice Joins RBC

Sorice is the latest former bulge-bracket banker to join RBC.

As first reported by IDD, John Sorice has joined RBC Capital Markets as a managing director in the firm's US financial sponsors group.

He will be based in RBC's New York office and will report to Joe Jabes and Dave Daniels, co-heads of the US financial sponsors team. Along with Jabes and Daniels, Sorice will become a senior member of the team, working to expand the group's client base and build on existing successes.

Sorice previously spent 22 years at JPMorgan, most recently as a managing director in the financial sponsors group. At JPMorgan, he provided equity and debt capital markets, M&A and other investment banking services to mid- and large-cap private equity clients such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Apollo Management, Oak Hill Capital Partners and Cerberus Capital Management.

John SoriceSorice started at one of JPMorgan's predecessor firms, Chase Manhattan Bank, in 1986. He began his tenure in the global energy group and transferred to Chase's syndications and structured sales business in 1991. Sorice, who spent four years in the oil-and-gas sector prior to joining Chase, received his MBA from the University of Denver and his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College.

"John's experience and relationships across all aspects of the financial sponsors spectrum will be a great addition to us as we continue to grow our business not only in this sector, but across our US investment banking platform," said Peter de Vos, head of US investment banking at RBC. "In tandem with other recent senior hires we've made, this marks another important step as we continue toward our goal of being the leading middle-market investment bank in the United States."

RBC's other recent personnel additions include ex-Bear Stearns bankers Scott Moskowitz and Jim Wolfe and former Lehman Brothers pro Kevin Lewis. Moskowitz, a managing director in RBC's technology and communications/media/entertainment groups, previously spent 15 years at Bear, most recently as head of the technology, media and telecommunications group. Wolfe joined RBC as head of US leveraged finance after serving as a senior managing director in Bear's leveraged finance group. Lewis, meanwhile, became RBC's head of consumer and retail banking after serving as a managing director in Lehman's global consumer and retail group.

In addition, RBC hired teams of municipal finance bankers from Bear and UBS.
