Greenhill Building Midwest Presence

Greenhill has increased the number of its managing directors by 40% in 2008.

Greenhill & Co. Inc. announced that it will expand its operations with the opening of a new Chicago office.

That office, which will focus on industrial clients and other major Midwest-based companies, will be staffed in part by three former Lehman managing directors.

Glenn Tilles, Doug Jackson and Chris Roehm will all join Greenhill in the same positions they held with the now-defunct investment bank. They will focus, as they did at Lehman, on industrial clients.

“The current market turmoil creates a unique opportunity to further expand Greenhill’s scope and capabilities,” said Scott Bok, chief executive of Greenhill. “Having a substantial team focused on companies in various industrial sectors, as well as on major companies based in the Midwest, is a natural extension for Greenhill.”

As many banking entities have fallen upon hard times this year, Greenhill has thus far escaped the trend, and has actually increased its number of managing directors by 40%, from 35 to 49 in 2008 alone.

Tilles will head the Chicago office; he was with Lehman for 34 years, focusing on metals and basic materials companies. Jackson was with Bank of America prior to spending 9 years with Lehman, concentrating on M&A for industrial companies. Roehm was an investment banker with Lehman for 8 years, after a 5-year stint with JPMorgan, concentrating on capital equipment and machinery companies.
