Alitalia's Board Weighs Options

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has denied plans of putting Alitalia into bankruptcy.


The board of struggling Italian airline Alitalia held a special meeting over the weekend to discuss its options as it awaits a rescue plan from its financial adviser.

According to Reuters, the board did not plan on issuing a statement about its meeting, and representatives from the bank, Intesa Sanpaolo, were not at the meeting.

Alitalia was to be sold to Air France-KLM, but that deal broke apart earlier this year and the airline has been since flying with the help of a government loan. Potential plans that have been talked about include breaking off the airline’s healthy units and putting the airline under special administration. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has denied plans of putting Alitalia into bankruptcy.
