Bear Muni Healthcare Team Joins RBC

RBC has more than doubled the size of its municipal finance healthcare team in past year.

A seven-member team of municipal finance healthcare bankers from Bear Stearns has resurfaced at RBC Capital Markets.

Kathy Costine, Rae Boylan and Nelson Luria join RBC's municipal finance healthcare practice as managing directors, while James LaVigne comes aboard as a director. Evie Wang and Marcella Finkel were appointed vice presidents, with Sonal Bose was named an associate.

All of the bankers will be based in New York except for LaVigne, who will work in Albany, N.Y.

"These highly seasoned and successful bankers bring to RBC a high level of experience and terrific depth and breadth," said Chris Hamel, head of municipal finance at RBC. "We saw a unique opportunity to bring a top team of bankers here, the addition of which benefits our clients and furthers our strategic vision to expand our healthcare group into a top-tier, leading national practice."

Costine had overseen Bear's non-profit healthcare practice since 1992. Prior to Bear, she led Kidder Peabody's health and higher education finance group and served as deputy director of the Michigan State Hospital Finance Authority.

Boylan worked with Costine at Kidder Peabody, while Luria worked for Merrill Lynch prior to Bear.

RBC has added 14 professionals to its municipal finance healthcare team over the past year, more than doubling its size.

Barclays Capital also recently hired a team of ex-Bear healthcare bankers.
