Howard Altarescu, a 20-year veteran of Goldman Sachs, has left the bank to join Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
He is a New York-based partner in the law firm's structured finance practice. At Goldman, Altarescu was head of the mortgage finance group and co-head of the mortgage and asset-backed finance team. He was most recently in charge of capital markets coverage for some of Goldman's most important residential mortgage origination clients.
Dan Sparks, head of Goldman's mortgage business, left the firm almost two months ago.

"We remain committed to the structured finance market and believe that Howard will enhance our ability to serve our clients' needs, especially in light of the unprecedented disruption in the global financial markets, and allow us to continue to play a leading role in the global capital markets," said Joshua Raff, co-head of Orrick's structured finance practice.
Altarescu was involved in the first CMO and IO/PO transactions, as well as the first commercial mortgage non-performing and public auto-receivable securitizations.
"I believe that Orrick's commercial orientation, its passion for excellence and drive for success, combined with its core values and team focus, make Orrick a great fit for me," said Altarescu. "I look forward to playing a key role in identifying and developing new directions for all of its transactional practices."
