WCAS Appoints Two Senior Operating Executives

Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS) said Tuesday it has appointed F. Stephen Larned and Daniel Lieber as senior operating executives.
Larned and Lieber will join the New York private equity firms 13-member WCAS Resources Group, which assists WCAS with sourcing transactions, due diligence and portfolio company oversight and improvement initiatives.
Tony de Nicola, co-president of WCAS, said in a statement that the executives have significant operating experience in leading organizations.
Prior to joining WCAS, Larned was the chief marketing and strategy officer at Longmont, Colo.-based aerial image and satellite services company DigitalGlobe, while Lieber served as chief operating officer for New York investment firm Unison Site Management, which acquires wireless lease rights.
WCAS, which is now investing capital from its latest $3.4 billion fund, invests in healthcare companies, as well as businesses that operate in the information services and business services areas. It also manages a $1.3 billion mezzanine debt fund.
Larned brings solid corporate experience to the position, having served as a former Dell executive prior to DigitaGlobe, as well as a previous 12-year stint at Bain & Co., where he worked on equity value enhancement projects for the consultancys industrial and consumer clients.
Lieber, meanwhile, brings a wealth of financial services experience to WCAS given his prior experience at New York private equity firm Capital Z, known in the deal business for its focus on the financial services industry, and where he had portfolio management and board representation responsibilities.
The appointments arent the only ones WCAS has carried out to strengthen its personnel roster.
Last year, WCAS hired famed JPMorgan Securities leveraged finance banker Christopher Solomon to serve as director of capital markets.
