March 3, 2009 - The private equity market is facing unprecedented change, creating uncertainty throughout the deal business. Deteriorating portfolios, a frozen debt market, and uncertain forecasts are just a few of the issues pros are dealing with, which raises the question of how to proceed in the months ahead.
December 3, 2008 - The energy markets, over the past few months, proved that they are not immune to the travails of the economy. Lower crude prices, the woes of the credit market, and diminishing demand have conspired to sink oil prices, reflecting a pullback that is being experienced throughout the broader energy market. And the slump in one area impacts another, underscored by the questions facing alternatives, which no longer seem as compelling alongside cheaper traditional fuels.
October 17, 2008 - Islamic finance had its start in the 1960s and 1970s with the influx of petrodollars into the Gulf region. The rapid development of Middle East markets--Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates--has stoked interest in a type of finance that is based on the principles of Shari'a. Industry experts estimate that Islamic finance has enjoyed double-digit annual growth with nearly $1 trillion put to work in Shari'a structures. But the specialists on Wall Street who want to bring securitization to other parts of the world may have to consider that the collateral, or debt, repackaged into bonds has to meet strict guidelines that adhere to principles of Islam.

June 6, 2008 - Throughout the financial services space, companies are struggling to develop a going-forward plan that adjusts to life after easy credit. For some it's a struggle for survival, and for others it's about figuring out a niche in the new world. But for investors in the sector, with the new landscape has come opportunity.
April 24, 2008 - One can argue the specifics, but there's no arguing the fact that preventive healthcare is a hot topic. And the numbers don't lie; in the next several years, the so-called baby-boom generation is going to start turning 65. By 2030, it's estimated that the population of the elderly in the US will double to nearly 72 million, or almost 20% of the country. What that means, among other things, is that an already-burdened healthcare system will face an incredible challenge.
April 1, 2008 - It's not so much that the manufacturing sector is changing -- it's that it has already been transformed. Globalization as a story has come and gone. It's now a truth in manufacturing that buttresses the industry's still-fresh new foundation. But even as the reality has long since set in, companies and investors are constantly adjusting to the new landscape, and M&A is playing an even larger role.

March 26, 2007 - Finding a consensus might be one of the trickiest tasks restructuring pros face in their day-to-day assignments. However, while there is little the players in the business wholeheartedly agree on, one universal theme that came out IDD's March 14, Restructuring Roundtable, was that it's only a matter of time before the lights go out on today's liquidity party. When this liquidity dry-up will occur or to what extent is anyone's guess, but few feel that the market can continue to steamroll over such developments as the Amaranth meltdown or the softening of subprime.
