Eschewing the "supermarket" mentality, former DLJ M&A vets get creative at Sagent Advisors

Sagent Advisors opened its doors in September 2003 and roughly six months later, when it received regulatory licenses, it began offering advice for mergers and acquisitions on issues such as valuation, deal strategy and transaction structuring. Much of the organization brings together old hands from Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette's M&A team, namely Hal Ritch, who had worked as an M&A banker at Kidder Peabody as well as Citigroup, and Joel Cohen, who ran the M&A practice at law firm Davis Polk, where he managed accounts such as RJ Reynolds, before his days at DLJ.
